One of the biggest lessons we try to teach the young minds in our care about each day at CEFA is gratitude. Studies have shown that being grateful and expressing gratitude can increase your quality of life and make you an all-around happier person.
We do many activities here at CEFA to encourage children to be more grateful people. Here are some tips from our Richmond Hill daycare professionals for how you as parents can promote an attitude of gratitude in your home for happier kids.
1. Write Thank You Notes.
The personnel at your Richmond Hill daycare do a lot for your kids. One of the things that you can do is get your kids in the habit of writing thank you notes to people who do things for them. It’s easy to forget sometimes how much hard work and effort goes into making daycare a pleasant place for your kids to be, and writing thank you notes is an immensely positive practice to get them doing.
One of the best things about thank you notes is that your kids can do it before they know how to write. An adorable picture, scrawled with crayons on construction paper with a quick “thank you” written by you in the corner is enough to make a teacher’s day and get the message across that you appreciate what they do.
2. Create A Gratitude Craft.
If you need some ideas, talk to your Richmond Hill daycare about some crafts you can do as a family to remember all the things you have to be grateful for. It’s easier to feel grateful when you have a reminder of it in a prominent place in your home.
For one thing, you could create a gratitude tree. This is easy to do. Draw a tree trunk with branches on a poster board or foam board. Have your child help you cut out leaf shapes. As they come up with things they are grateful for, write it down on a leaf and put it up on the tree. Pretty soon you’ll have a visual representation of everything you’re grateful for.
3. Talk About Gratitude.
Your local Richmond Hill daycare likely already talks about gratitude with your children and you can easily continue the conversation at home. Before dinnertime or breakfast, you may have everyone around the dinner table mention something that they’re grateful for.
As you and your child discuss their day at school, or as you talk about the goings-on at work that day, try to incorporate some of the things that you’re grateful for. Your kids will be more likely to jump on the gratitude train if they hear it every day as part of their lives.
